| Brief Description |
Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area, located in the north-west part of Hunan Province along the middle and upper reaches of Lishui River, belongs to Wuling Mountains. The whole area stretches over 397 square kilometers, including a core landscape area of 264 square kilometers. Wulingyuan enjoys world-renown reputation for its unique quartz sand peaks. The highest altitude in the area is 1,264.5 meters while the lowest is 269 meters, making a height difference of about 1,000 meters. Featuring grotesque peaks, tranquil valleys, elegant waters, luxuriant forests, and mysterious caves, the area presents itself as a natural roll of painting of superb beauty. In addition, Wulingyuan is also the home to many rare ancient plants and endemic plant resource in China, and therefore is acclaimed as "The Monument of the Earth".
