A 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit Yingjiang County of Yunnan Province on March 10th. The multiple aftershocks have caused heavy casualties and property damages including local ancient buildings. In addition to the collapse of 19 of its affiliated pagodas, the main body of Yunyan Pagoda also appears fractures. Nansuan Buddhism Temple, another historic site, is now supported with 57 columns after earthquakes. More than 10 cultural relics and sites suffered damages in the earthquake.

Yunyan Pagoda, built in 1947 financed by Si Hongsheng the Chieftain of Zhanda region, lies on the mountain about 1 kilometer away from Yingjiang County. It is composed of a five-tier altar platform, a main pagoda and 40 affiliated pagodas around. Though being of fairly recent origin, the pagoda, well-known for its unique outline and magnificent tower body, was listed as one of the sixth national heritage sites named by the State Council. The pagoda was seriously damaged in the earthquake— 19 of its 40 affiliated pagodas collapsed down to the altar platform, the outer walls of the main pagoda cracked and peeled off, and the inner red bricks of the platform was bared with crevices on it. The entire pagoda, now under critical condition, has been railed off and barred to the public.

The Nansuan Buddhism Temple in Nansuan Village of Nongzhang Town, is now propped up by wooden and bamboo pillars at the bottom and both sides. The entire temple is in bad condition with rotten columns and boards, and decayed crossbeams on the top. A total of 43 posts made from wood and bricks are used to support the floor board on the bottom and another 14 for the partitions and beams at the opposite sides of the building.

It is also reported that there are cracks on the south and north walls of the Former Residence of Dao Anren, the county-level cultural heritage site of Yingjiang. Part of stockrooms for relics and the rooms in south-eastern wing of the Mansion House of Ganya Xuanfu Chieftain office also split and became dangerous buildings.
