The 47th session of the World Heritage Committee will be held from 6 to 16 July at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. On 8 July, WHITR-AP will co-organise with the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations (WFUCA) a side event on the theme of “World Heritage Education Towards the Future——Global Innovative Network and Capacity Building”. Representatives of renowned international institutions, experts and innovative projects in the field of world heritage education will gather in Paris to discuss the future development trend of world heritage education and promote the implementation of the New World Heritage Capacity Building Strategy through global cooperation and networking. At the same time, the winners of AWHEIC 2025 will be announced and sharing of cases will take place. Time: 8 July, 2025 13:00-15:00, (Paris time) Venue: Room VII, UNESCO Headquarters World Heritage Education (WHE) is crucial for sustainable WH conservation and the achievement of UNESCO’s Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) objectives for 2030. This side event will showcase WHITR-AP’s activities in the field of education, heritage and promote international exchange. It will focus in particular on the Global Awards for World Heritage Education Innovative Cases (AWHEIC) launched in 2021 at the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee (Fuzhou, China) and the International Network for Urban-rural Heritage Conservation in Higher Education Institutions (UHC-HEI) launched in 2023 by WHITR-AP Shanghai and the College of Architecture and Urban Planning, Tongji University. Since the launch of AWHEIC in Fuzhou in 2021, this forum has served as a dynamic platform for global stakeholders to explore emerging trends in heritage education, strengthen international networks in WHE, and foster capacity-building initiatives. Our goal is to co-create a global WHE platform by integrating professional knowledge and resources across regions, bringing together people from various fields with innovative ideas in heritage education for sharing and exchange. We aim to establish a cross-border WHE innovation network that incorporates heritage education, cutting-edge technology, and creative solutions. Since then, the Centre has organised side events on the theme of heritage education in Saudi Arabia in 2023 and India in 2024, where the AWHEIC Prize will be awarded and global cases will be shared. Through the Side Events, heritage education innovators from around the world are being connected, and it is increasingly becoming a multistakeholder international platform for heritage education exchange. The construction of an international network for heritage education will enter a period of rapid development in 2025, with the establishment of multiform partnerships between the Centre and World Heritage-related institutions (ICCROM, WFUCA, etc.) and projects. Currently, an innovative matrix of heritage education and communication has been established for world heritage practitioners, heritage conservation students, world heritage architects and the general public, particularly young people.
