WHITR-AP Secretariat and Shanghai Centre is now recruiting interns for the Spring 2026.
01 Introduction to WHITR-AP
The World Heritage Institute of Training and Research for the Asia and the Pacific Region (WHITR-AP) is a Category Il Centre under the auspices of UNESCO. Established in 2008, it is the first international organization inthe field of World Heritage to be headquartered in a developing country. Mandated by the State Parties to the World Heritage Convention andother UNESCO Member States, WHITR-AP advances the conseryation andsustainable development of World Heritage across the Asia-Pacific region.

WHITR-AP comprises three branches - Beijing, Shanghai, and Suzhou - each with a distinct focus: WHITR-AP Shanghai (hosted by Tongji University) dedicated to conserving cultural heritage, including the sustainabledevelopment of ancient towns and villages, architectural sites andcomplexes,and cultural landscapes; WHITR-AP Beijing (hosted by Peking University) responsible for natural heritage conservation, archaeological excavationand the management of cultural landscapes. WHITR-AP Suzhou (hosted by Suzhou Municipal Government) specializes in training for conservation and restoration techniques ofancient architecture, alongside World Heritage youth education. The Rotating Secretariat of WHITR-AP is currently located at Tongji University in Shanghai, primarily responsible for coordinating and guiding the WHITR-AP's work in accordance with the plans and instructions determined by the Council.
WHITR-AP is leveraging the unique strengths of the three branches, including academic expertise and international networks, to serve the States Parties in the Asia-Pacific region and other UNESCO member states and aiming to protect and develop World Heritage sites across the region. WHITR-AP established a series of representative international heritage cooperation projects,evolved into a comprehensive research and international exchange platform, contributed significantly to World Heritage protection in China, the Asia-Pacific region, and globally.
02 Internship Information
Internship Period
2nd March, 2026 (Monday) to 30th June, 2026 (Tuesday), 4 Months.
A minimum internship period of 3 months is required, with no fewer than 3 working days per week.

*You may check the internship programs you wish to participate in when submitting your internship application! Project supervisors will comprehensively consider applicants' preferences during the selection process.
Requirements
(At least one of the following requirements must be met)
1.Currently enrolled as a junior or senior undergraduate student, or a postgraduate student (excluding graduates and international students); strong interest in cultural heritage or creative industries; preference will be given to candidates with international study or work experience.
2.Proficiency in design software (e.g., Photoshop, InDesign) is a plus.
3.Basic administrative skills, proficient in Microsoft Office, with excellent writing and communication abilities.
4.Experience in WeChat official account layout design and operation.
5.Experience in event planning and execution.
6.Excellent English skills with proficiency in academic writing and translation.
7.Comprehensive candidates with multiple skills from the above criteria are preferred.
*In accordance with the requirements of relevant Chinese laws and regulations, the WHITR-AP's Internship Program does not recruit graduates or international students!
Main Duties
1.Assist in research, training, international conference, heritage education, and public promotion programs;
2.Assist in planning and organizing various activities;
3.Assist in handling daily administrative affairs;
4.Assist in English translation tasks;
5.Assist in editing and publishing on the WeChat public account and website;
*After admission, the specific work arrangement will be communicated by the internship supervisors and the interns.

Step 1: Click “English” at the top-left corner to switch to the English webpage, and find the “Internship” button in the blue navigation bar. Complete and submit the English application form online.
Step 2: Click “中文” (Chinese) at the top-left corner to switch to the Chinese webpage. and find the “实习机会” (Internship Opportunities) in the blue navigation bar. Complete and submit the Chinese application form online.
*Both Chinese and English resumes must be submitted to facilitate the selection of interns by foreign supervisors. Applicants who fail to submit complete Chinese and English resumes will not be considered.
04 Interview and Admission
Monday, December 22nd
Interview arrangements will be notified via email, and applicants must confirm the attendance for the interview via email within 1 working day; those who do not receive an email notification have not passed the resume screening.
Monday, December 29th
The interview selection will be completed.
Tuesday, December 30th
Successful candidates will receive an email notification and must respond to accept or decline the offer on the same day. Upon confirmation of acceptance, the official internship offer will be sent via email within 1 working day!
*Please keep an eye on your email during the interview and admission stage! Those who fail to confirm interview attendance or acceptance of admission in a timely manner will be deemed to have voluntarily withdrawn.
