Study on Natural and Cultural Heritage is a specialized academic journal jointly published by WHITR‑AP Beijing, Beijing Prominion Publishing Group, and the School of Archaeology and Museology at Peking University. It is the first Chinese‑language journal to comprehensively cover both natural and cultural heritage.
The journal addresses a wide range of topics, including the characteristics, types, values, protection, and management of natural, cultural, and mixed heritage. Its content spans historical and current practices, problem analysis, theoretical exploration, methodological research, case studies, critiques, and emerging trends, with a mission to disseminate advanced theories and methods of heritage protection, share successful experiences, and promote heritage conservation, management, and sustainable use across the Asia‑Pacific region.
Published bimonthly (6 issues per year), WHITR‑AP Beijing oversees content development, peer review, and academic planning. Drawing on its expertise and international network, WHITR‑AP Beijing ensures the journal maintains high academic standards and a global outlook.
The journal was included in the AMI Extended Edition of the Evaluation Report on Chinese Humanities and Social Science Journals in 2022 and was ranked in CNKI’s Q2 tier in 2023. Its editorial board is composed of 52 distinguished experts in the field of heritage, contributing significantly to the journal’s quality and academic exchange.
As of April 2025, Study on Natural and Cultural Heritage has published 34 issues featuring 370 articles from authors across numerous countries and regions, establishing a broad international base of contributors and readers.
Since the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee, the journal has included a recurring feature titled World Heritage Congress Observation Report. These special issues analyze meeting developments, interpret emerging trends, and compile expert insights. A total of 18 high‑quality articles have been published under this feature, providing forward‑looking, valuable content for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers in the World Heritage field.
