At 9 A.M October 29th, the Activity of "Youth Hundreds Miles Hiking: Cheer for World Heritage Application of the Great Canal ", was held in Yangzhou Dongguan ancient ferry station, jointly organized by the Yangzhou Municipal Government, Jiangsu Provincial Communist Youth League, the Grand Canal Application Office and the UNESCO WHITRAP Shanghai, sponsored by the Municipal Party Committee.
During the Initiation Ceremony, secretary of the Municipal Youth League Committee, WANG Zhihai made an introduction to the event. Deputy Mayor of Yangzhou, Mr. WANG Yuxin, Vice Secretary of Jiangsu youth communist committee, Mr. SHEN Haibin and, Director of the training Unit of WHITRAP Shanghai, Ms. YU Liqing delivered speech respectively on behalf of the host organizations.
After the youth representative of the activity announced the “the Canal City Youth Declaration" and received an honorable flag delivered by the leaders and guests, ZHAO Min, Deputy Secretary of Yangzhou Municipal Party committee declared the official start of this activity.
The activity lasted for two days, with about 2000 youth from home and abroad joining in and stating a hiking from Guandong ancient ferry station, along part of the Grand Canal in Yangzhou to the Gao You Zhen Guo Temple which built in the Tang Dynasty. The entire route is 60 km, which is designed to spread the Grand Canal culture, advocate for the protection of the Grand Canal and cheer for the Grand Canal application.
