| ICCROM Reducing Risks to Heritage International Meeting Aims to Consolidate and Expand Preventative Conservation Network |

The International Center for the Study of Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property is set to hold a conference from November 28th to the 30th in Amersmfoot Netherlands. The aim of the meeting is to incorporate a risk management approaches to historical conservation, expand the risk network and explore new directions for the future. At the conference industry professionals will discuss management strategies on reducing the damage done to important historical cites, like the advantages and disadvantages to an environmental control system. Since 2005 ICCROM, CCI and RCE have worked on developing the risk management approach historical preservation, and in doing so has offered six join courses. The most recent course, in 2011, enabled participants to apply the risk management approach in their own working and cultural context. The ICCROM has chosen to focus to on risk management because it allows an integrated identification and analysis of all expected damages and losses to cultural property, as well as a mitigation strategy to reduce these risks. Furthermore, the method and tools that have been developed for the course proved to be applicable for all types of heritage conservation. The Reducing Risks to Heritage International meeting will synthesize and share knowledge of past participants and exchange it with others who are interested in risk management. |
