The Secretary General of WHITRAP under the auspices of UNESCO, Prof. Zhou Jian, expresses his deep condolences at the loss of lives and destructions caused by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck the island of Luzon in the Philippines on 27 July. As the impact of the earthquake and its extent are yet to be evaluated, WHITRAP expresses its solidarity and support towards the local communities that have been affected. The strong quake may also bring damages to the Historic City of Vigan, a UNESCO World Heritage site. WHITRAP sincerely hopes the damages assessed to the cultural properties are not irreversible. |
