On July 12, on the occasion of the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee, at UNESCO Head Quarters, in Paris, France, Prof. SHAO Yong, Secretary General of WHITR-AP met Lazare ELOUNDOU, Director of the World Heritage Centre and Jyoti HOSAGRAHAR, Deputy Director of the World Heritage Centre along with Marie-Noël TOURNOUX, Project Director of WHITR-AP Shanghai and FAN Li, UN-Habitat Expert.

Its purpose was to follow up on meetings held in October 2024 at UNESCO and several on-line meetings, relevant cooperation plans discussed in June 2025 between WHITR-AP Shanghai at Tongji University with Remy SIETCHIPING, Chief of Policy, Legislation and Governance Section, UN-Habitat as well as the WHITR-AP activity report of item 6B of the World Heritage Committee presented orally on 15 July. In particular they discussed developing a 5-year program for the implementation of the Historic Urban Landscape across metropolitan and rural areas as well as the renewal of WHITR-AP’s 3rd statutory Agreement with UNESCO.

Lazare ELOUNDOU commended WHITR-AP’s achievements and the strong ties developed through the years since WHITR-AP’s inception, specifically recognizing its work in the Periodic Reporting for the Asia and the Pacific Region exercise, Capacity Building activities, promoting tool kits as well as the UNESCO 2011 Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape etc..

Furthermore, he praised the annual activity programs of WHITR-AP and its overall mid-term strategy which actively supports the World Heritage Centre’s endeavor in implementing the World Heritage Committee’s decisions through research, training and capacity building, in partnership with Advisory Bodies or other Category 2 Centers through workshops, conferences and publications such as focusing on World Heritage Education, Heritage Impact assessments, the Preliminary Assessment Process among others.
