To further promote traditional Chinese culture, and to protect intangible cultural heritages, the Department of Art and Design of the Tongji University College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP) presented the ""Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage"" activity during the third annual Chinese Cultural Heritage Day. This event was planned and hosted with WHITR-AP. As part of the activity, the ""Folk strategies-protection, inheritance, innovation"" lecture was held in the Zhong Ting Lecture Hall. Invited guests included famous folk artists such as Nantong Folk Blue Print-cloth Museum curator Mr. Wu Yuanxin, the third generation of the Wei Family Shadow Puppet designers Mr. Wei Cao, and the successor of the Master World Folk Artisan Ms. Ku Shulan, Ms. Wei Yiping. Their speeches attracted over 200 students from the many departments of CAUP.
The seminar was hosted by Art and Design teachers Gao Bo and Wang Hongbing. The CAUP faculty leader and the director of the Department of Art and Design made speeches in the opening ceremony. The three aforementioned artisans shared their experiences regarding intangible cultural heritage preservation with the students, sparking the interest of those present and giving them a better understanding of Chinese tradition. Through this activity, the three artisans and the department of Art and Design reached an agreement regarding further cooperation in the future. CAUP curriculums will integrate this new outside resource for their students in the future. |
